Hong Kong-based crypto company Mixin disclosed a security breach on September 23, 2023, resulting in hackers stealing approximately $200 million. The attack targeted the database of Mixin Network’s cloud service provider, prompting the temporary suspension of deposit and withdrawal services. Mixin, known for its decentralized exchange and cross-chain network, claimed to have one million users as of July. The company engaged Google’s cyber incident response firm, Mandiant, and crypto security firm SlowMist for the investigation. The hack marks the largest theft in the crypto world in 2023, surpassing the previous record set by Euler, a crypto lending platform that lost around $197 million in March. Mixin plans to announce a solution for addressing the stolen assets at a later date.
